Russia has always perceived the grief of the brotherly people as its own: Zakharova on Armenian Genocide
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said during a press briefing that April 24 marks the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, one of the tragic events of the early 20th century. Zakharova noted that Russia has always perceived the grief of the brotherly Armenian people as its own.
She added that Moscow’s stance on these events is well known: it is consistent and based on humanitarian traditions.
She underlined that present-day Russia was among the first in the world to recognize the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also noted that, according to tradition, memorial events are held in several Russian cities, not only with Armenian participation but also with the involvement of representatives of other nations. According to Zakharova, these people are united by the desire to preserve the memory of past tragic events and to prevent their forgetting for the sake of current and future objectives.
