Artak Zakaryan: The issue of recognizing the Genocide has been a priority on the Armenian agenda
Approximately 13.5 million people were killed as a result of all genocides that occurred in the 20th century. These are crimes against humanity, and the Republic of Turkey, as the legal successor of the Ottoman Empire, cannot and should not evade moral and political responsibility, Artak Zakaryan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia, told ABC media.
“The Armenian Genocide is one of the most recognized genocides in the world, and in previous years, under the leadership of all presidents—together with the Diaspora—it has been a top priority on Armenia’s agenda. We must keep it that way. Now, the current authorities, with their defeatist, cowardly, and weak policies, are trying to appease Turkey and gain its favor by declaring that it is not a priority—not understanding that in this way, they are dealing a double blow to the Armenian people,” Zakaryan said during the annual torchlight procession.
