There is no domestic political context: Zakharova on meeting between Russian consul in Gyumri and Mother Armenia alliance representatives
The meeting between Russia’s Consul General in Gyumri, Igor Titov, and representatives of the Mother Armenia opposition alliance is an integral part of the work of Russian foreign missions and does not have any domestic political context, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
In late February 2025, Titov, who was appointed as the Russian consul general in Gyumri, visited Mother Armenia’s office in Gyumri. During the meeting, the consul met with Karen Simonyan, head of the Mother Armenia faction of the Gyumri city council.
“The meeting is an integral part of the daily work of the heads of our foreign missions. Russian diplomats communicate with representatives of the entire spectrum of political forces in a given country in order to advance bilateral relations in various areas,” Zakharova noted.
She also added that discussions included the development of cultural ties between the consular district municipalities and Russian colleagues. “I have seen various publications on this topic suggesting some domestic political context. There is definitely no domestic political context here. Everything is open and fully aligns with the goals and objectives of establishing a foreign institution,” Zakharova concluded.
