Robert Kocharyan: For more than 4 years, we have been in that cycle
We suffered a heavy defeat during the war, and this government has turned that defeat into an ongoing process, Second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan told reporters at Tsitsernakaberd.
“For more than four years, we have been in that cycle, constantly ceding something, which is simply exhausting for our people. Perhaps, in this context, the denial of the Armenian Genocide is perceived even more harshly by many people,” Kocharyan stated.
Referring to the statements made by the current authorities about renouncing Armenia’s Declaration of Independence, Kocharyan said:
“Efforts in this direction, along with the denial of the Genocide, will lead to the people who attempt to do this being denied and forgotten by our nation.”
The former president also addressed the government’s accusations about the burning of Turkish and Azerbaijani flags: “I would like to remind you that back in 2015, those who now hold high-ranking positions in the country—including the foreign minister, the prime minister’s aides, former press secretaries, and others—tried to set fire to the Russian flag near the Russian Embassy, and later, trampled on it. If such actions are generally unacceptable, then the question arises: are double standards applied to Russia and Turkey or not? It is simply shameful; at least, they have no right to speak about that.”
