Bayramov again criticizes Armenia complaining to European Commission deputy over burning of Turkish and Azerbaijani flags
During a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov announced that they had the opportunity to discuss the general security situation, ongoing conflicts, their impact on regional countries, and several other issues.
Bayramov noted that Kaja Kallas was informed about the situation in the South Caucasus. “I informed my colleague about the situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and about the negotiations that concluded this March regarding the draft peace agreement. Azerbaijan’s expectations from Armenia were explained in detail once again. Our EU partners are well aware of Azerbaijan’s stance. It’s nothing new; it has been on the table for over two years,” he stated.
Armenia is expected to take appropriate steps to “remove the territorial claims against Azerbaijan enshrined in the constitution” and to dissolve the OSCE Minsk Group.
Once again, Bayramov took the opportunity to criticize Armenia, accusing it of burning the flags of Turkey and Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, the world has witnessed several instances of disrespect toward the Armenian flag in those countries. “Armenia’s active military posture remains a source of threat. Speaking of revanchist sentiments, I would like to mention recent incidents involving the burning of Azerbaijani and Turkish flags. Unfortunately, a similar incident also occurred yesterday in France. We expect the relevant authorities of these countries to take decisive actions to ensure that the burning of symbols of another country is recognized as a criminal act,” Bayramov said.
Azerbaijan’s foreign minister also touched upon demining issues, noting that the implementation of larger projects in this area with the EU aligns with his country’s interests. “I hope that more attention will be paid to this in the future,” Bayramov concluded.
