India and Pakistan fire at each other in Kashmir

India has accused Pakistan of encouraging terrorism across the border, following an attack on April 22 in the tourist zone of Pulwama, Kashmir, where armed individuals killed 26 civilians. This is considered the most tragic attack against civilians in the region in the last 25 years.

Islamabad has strongly denied the accusations, calling them “baseless,” and warned that it will respond to any Indian action.

Indian security forces have launched extensive search operations to identify those responsible.

Indian armed forces announced on Sunday that Pakistan had carried out “provocative” firing along the Line of Control, to which Indian forces responded with appropriate small arms fire.

Pakistan has not yet responded to reports of the shelling.

India’s police have issued a search for three suspects—two Pakistanis and one Indian—who, according to law enforcement, are linked to the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba operating in Pakistan and listed as a terrorist group by the U.N.

India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has transferred the investigation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which specializes in counter-terrorism activities.

The agency is currently questioning witnesses to the incident, checking entry and exit points, and collecting forensic evidence to reconstruct the full picture of the events.

“Testimonies from witnesses are being thoroughly examined to fully understand the developments of the most severe terrorist attack in Kashmir in recent decades,” the agency stated.
