Will Ukraine and Russia find a ‘middle ground’? US not to fly around the world to mediate meetings

The United States will no longer act as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine, U.S. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said.

“We will not be the mediators. We are not going to fly around the world at the drop of a hat to mediate meetings,” Bruce stated.

Bruce added that work now needs to be done between the two sides.

According to her, now is the time that Russia and Ukraine need to present and develop concrete ideas about how this conflict is going to end.

The head of the State Department press service also noted that the agreement between Washington and Kyiv on mineral resources will allow Ukraine to strengthen its national security.

“It cements a partnership–an economic partnership–between the United States and Ukraine,” Bruce said at a press briefing.

“This is not just a financial arrangement. This is a bonding between two countries that will make a difference for a nation, certainly in Ukraine’s situation, where they have a friend, and the rest of the world would notice that when you have a friend like the United States and when we are in business with you and in your nation, it creates a stronger national security for everyone involved,” she noted.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance, in turn, told Fox News that Russia and Ukraine have presented their proposals as part of the conflict resolution process, and now a search for a “golden mean” is underway.

“In the last few weeks, we’ve seen each side say, ‘This is our peace proposal.’ The Ukrainians did that. The Russians did that. And now, I think, the question is whether we can find some middle ground to end this conflict. The Ukrainians are angry, of course. But are we really going to continue to lose thousands of soldiers for a few miles of territory in one direction or another?” Vance said.
