All cardinal electors arrive in Rome to attend conclave

All 133 cardinals with voting rights, expected to participate in the upcoming conclave, have arrived in Rome to take part in the election of the new Pope, the Holy See Press Office reports.

Out of the 179 members of the College of Cardinals, those under the age of 80 will gather for the conclave opening on May 7.

Matteo Bruni, Head of the Holy See Press Office, announced that to accommodate so many church authorities, the Vatican has prepared Domus Sanctae Marthae, which has traditionally served this purpose during recent conclaves.

Bruni also stated that on Saturday, a ballot was held to assign rooms for the cardinals, who will reside in complete secrecy and isolation during the conclave. The cardinals can enter their designated residences starting the morning of May 6.
