India doesn’t want to escalate tensions with Pakistan but promises a strong response in case of an attack, says India’s Foreign Ministry
India does not intend to escalate the conflict with Pakistan but will respond firmly if Islamabad initiates a military attack, India’s Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar stated.
“Our goal is not to escalate the situation. However, if we face a military attack, there should be no doubt that a very, very strong response will follow,” he said during a joint Indian-Iranian commission meeting in New Delhi.
Jaishankar recalled that on April 22, following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which targeted civilians, India responded on May 7 by targeting cross-border terrorist infrastructure.
“Our response was targeted and proportionate,” India’s foreign minister noted.
