Armenian National Committee of America welcomes legislative initiative prohibiting US military assistance to Azerbaijan
Congressional Armenian Caucus Co-Chairs Frank Pallone, Gus
Bilirakis, Adam Schiff and David Valadao were joined by Representatives Brad
Sherman and Nicole Malliotakis in introducing a series of amendments to the
Fiscal Year 2024 U.S. House Defense Appropriations Bill, the Armenian National
Committee of America (ANCA) reports.
The amendments are aimed at blocking U.S. military
assistance to Azerbaijan.
Six amendments in total have been introduced. They suggest
preventing the use of funds to provide military assistance to Azerbaijan,
preventing the use of funds to provide military assistance to Azerbaijan for
use against Armenia or Artsakh, allocating funds to support Department of
Defense activities and partnerships that will help the unblocking of the Lachin
corridor and will improve the humanitarian situation in Artsakh.
With regard to this initiative, ANCA Executive Director Aram
Hamparian said: “The Biden-Harris Administration’s failure of leadership on
Azerbaijan’s genocidal blockade of Artsakh underscores the urgent need for
strong Congressional leadership and strict legislative oversight. We welcome
each of these amendments and are working alongside a broad array of
Congressional allies and coalition partners to see them enacted into law.”
