The article states that the new pope also intends to visit Turkey and Peru.
On May 12, Pope Leo XIV met with representatives of the international media at the Vatican. As reported by Reuters, during the meeting, the head of the Catholic Church discussed the main programs and objectives of his pontificate. He also called for an end to the polarizing “war of words,” which involves partisan and ideological attacks, and urged to stop fueling hatred.
One day earlier, Pope Leo XIV delivered his first sermon in his new office, calling for a just peace in Ukraine. The pope also urged for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of Israeli hostages taken by members of Hamas.
