Russia is determined to unlock the full potential of its relations with Azerbaijan, says Zakharova

Moscow aims to explore the full potential of its relationship with Baku, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said during a press briefing, commenting on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s decision not to attend the Victory Day Parade in Moscow on May 9.

“We are building relations with Baku based on the Declaration of Allied Cooperation signed at the highest level in February 2022. Our side is committed to consistently unlocking the full potential of this document important for bilateral relations and resolving all emerging issues on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation and mutual respect,” Zakharova stated.

She added that Moscow and Baku are “carrying out a series of high-level exchanges between governments and foreign ministries.”

As Zakharova noted, the Russian side is pleased that the peoples of Russia and Azerbaijan “share a common historical memory and a respectful attitude toward the impossibility of forgetting their ancestors’ feats.”

“Regarding the leaders’ schedules, first this has already been discussed within the presidential administration, and second, different things may happen. But ignoring the obvious is also wrong, unfair, and, by the way, very dangerous,” Zakharova concluded.
