Progress seen on ‘Iranian case,’ says CSTO secretary general

Experts are observing progress regarding the so-called “Iranian case,” in light of indirect negotiations held in Oman between Washington and Tehran, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said during the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly session in Bishkek.

On May 11, Iran and the United States conducted the fourth round of negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear program through Oman mediation. Iran’s delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the U.S. delegation was headed by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. As Iran’s foreign minister stated after the negotiations, this round was more serious and sincere than previous ones, and the positions of the sides have come closer. On May 16, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington had sent Tehran a written proposal to resolve the situation.

The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council session is taking place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, which will chair the organization in 2025. The council is presided over by State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, who also leads the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
