Lavrov to discuss prospects for resolving Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish relations during visit to Armenia, says Russia’s foreign ministry
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will be in Yerevan on an official visit on May 20-21. Russia’s Foreign Ministry stated Lavrov will hold talks with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. Meetings are also scheduled with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
The agenda includes discussions on a broad range of bilateral cooperation issues, cooperation within Eurasian integration unions, and alignment of positions on international platforms, primarily the United Nations. The heads of foreign ministries will exchange views on regional security issues, including the prospects for resolving Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish relations. It is also planned to sign a timetable for inter-agency consultations for 2025-2026.
In keeping with tradition, flowers will be laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the eternal flame, and a wreath will be placed at the monument to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
Moscow hopes that the visit will contribute to strengthening political and inter-agency dialogue between Russia and Armenia, foster mutual understanding, and lead to mutually acceptable solutions to issues of interest to both sides.
