Israel opens fire at 25 Arab and European diplomats in Jenin
Israeli forces opened fire at 25 Arab and European ambassadors and diplomats who had visited the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank, Al Jazeera reports.
On the morning of May 21, the diplomatic delegation visited the Jenin governorate and discussed the situation in the city and camp.
Palestine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the targeting of the diplomatic delegation accredited to the State of Palestine and several accompanying Arab and foreign journalists by Israeli forces, as they conducted a tour in Jenin governorate to examine the humanitarian situation, crimes, and violations.
The ministry confirmed that this aggressive act is a gross and serious violation of the fundamental rules of diplomatic relations enshrined in international law and the 1961 Vienna Convention. It called on the international community to take steps to stop these crimes.
Israeli Army radio, citing an intelligence source, stated that the diplomatic delegation reached a banned area in the Jenin camp.
The diplomatic delegation included ambassadors from Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, the European Union, Portugal, China, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Turkey, Spain, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Japan, Romania, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Canada, India, Chile, France, the United Kingdom, and representatives from several other countries.
