Erdoğan to no longer run for president
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that he does not intend to run again for the presidency, but noted that the country needs a new constitution.
“I will not be re-elected or run for office again. We are only concerned with how we can improve our country’s reputation. Turkey is changing, the world is changing. We are living in a new era. In this rapidly changing world, is it possible to achieve anything with a constitution created in the old Turkey, under the conditions of a coup, and which still retains the mindset of a coup? Turkey can no longer move forward into the future with that constitution. Now, we need a constitution proposed by civil society, not by traitors,” Erdoğan stated.
