Russian citizen arrested in Azerbaijan on charges of inciting separatism under the instructions of Armenian organizations

The State Security Service of Azerbaijan (SSS) has handed over to the country’s authorities Russian citizen Zakireddin Ibrahimov, who lives in Yekaterinburg and serves as the head of the Committee for the Defense of Rights of National Minorities, Azerbaijani media reports.

The publication states that between 2005 and 2020, Ibrahimov repeatedly participated in conferences held in Armenia and allegedly made false accusations against Azerbaijan, as well as issued “biased” statements. “Moreover, the Russian citizen is accused of inciting separatism in Azerbaijan under the instructions of Armenian organizations,” the media reported.

Details of the operation to hand Ibrahimov over to Azerbaijan have not been disclosed. It is only known that he is currently in pre-trial detention along with Ruben Vardanyan and Arayik Harutyunyan and will be held accountable for “crimes against Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.”
