Georgia’s deputy prime minister resigns

Vakhtang Gomelauri, Georgia’s Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, has resigned, Gomelauri said in a message sent to the public. He expressed gratitude to the country’s leadership, colleagues, and the staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for their joint work.

Gomelauri stated that the decision to resign was not easy, but currently, a calm period has been created, allowing him to devote more time to his family.

Vakhtang Gomelauri is included in the sanctions lists of several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, due to the harsh suppression of protests in Tbilisi last autumn.
