Iran won’t renounce its right to enrich uranium, says Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary
Tehran will not relinquish its right to enrich uranium, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Akbar Ahmadian, announced during the 13th international meeting of senior representatives overseeing security issues.
“Emphasizing the rejection of weapons of mass destruction, Iran will not back down from its legal rights, including those related to the nuclear sector and uranium enrichment,” the Iranian official stated.
Ahmadian also stated that the international security architecture cannot be built without the engagement of all countries and peoples. From Iran’s perspective, security must be based on renouncing hegemony, promoting the freedom of individuals and nations, and establishing equal relations.
Through the mediation of Oman, Iran and the United States have conducted five rounds of indirect negotiations over the Iranian nuclear dossier. The most recent round took place on May 23 in Rome. Following this, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced the mechanisms proposed by Oman that could help overcome obstacles in the negotiations. According to the Iranian minister, progress could be achieved after one or two more rounds.
