EU officially lifts all economic sanctions against Syria

The Council of the European Union has adopted legal acts formally confirming the lifting of all economic sanctions against Syria. Twenty-four entities have been removed from the list, including the country’s Central Bank and companies involved in oil extraction and cotton processing, Reuters reports.

EU Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas wrote on X that Europe aims to help the Syrian people build a new, inclusive, and peaceful Syria.

To remind, U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to lift the U.S. sanctions imposed on Syria. He stated that this decision was made after consultations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on the developments, saying that Moscow welcomes the removal of sanctions against Syria and is ready to establish active trade and economic cooperation under the new circumstances.
