US vetoes peace efforts in Gaza
The United States has exercised its veto power, rejecting peace initiatives in Gaza.
The United States was the only country at the U.N. Security Council to oppose the draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The resolution urges “an immediate, unconditional, and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, which must be respected by all parties,” as well as the release of all hostages held in the Palestinian enclave.
Additionally, the sponsors of the draft resolution demand “the immediate and unconditional lifting of all restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza—by both the U.N. and its humanitarian partners.”
