Russia ready to return over 6,000 bodies of fallen soldiers, says Russia’s defense ministry
Russia’s Ministry of Defense has announced that it is ready to transfer more than 6,000 bodies of fallen soldiers to Ukraine.
According to the ministry, pursuant to agreements reached in Istanbul, the first group, i.e., 1,212 bodies, has already been delivered to the transfer zone.
The Russian side is awaiting official confirmation from Kyiv to commence the transfer process.
Lt. Gen. Alexander Zorin, a member of the Russian negotiating team, stated that there are signals indicating the transfer of bodies could be postponed until next week.
Russia had previously mentioned the same figure—6,000 bodies—claiming that Ukraine was refusing to accept the bodies.
Kyiv, however, denies these allegations, insisting that the Russian side did not coordinate the transfer dates in advance.
Ukraine has not yet responded to Russia’s statements made today.
