Trump sends National Guard forces to Los Angeles to suppress protests
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he is sending National Guard forces to Los Angeles to “suppress” anti-ICE protests.
He accused California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass of failing to manage the situation.
“If Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass cannot handle their job, then the federal government will step in and address the problem — by fighting against protesters and looters as necessary,” Trump wrote.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that 2,000 National Guard troops are being deployed to Los Angeles with the aim of arresting protesters.
According to the White House, the National Guard forces will operate under Title 10 authority, meaning they will act under federal command without invoking the Insurrection Act.
This decision was made during the second consecutive day of protests following the ongoing immigration operations in the second-largest city of the United States.
