West has invested heavily in Armenia trying to detach it from EAEU and CSTO, analyst says

The West has made significant investments in Armenia in an attempt to sever the country from the EAEU and the CSTO, Aleksey Avdonin, an analyst at the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies, said in an interview with BelTA.

As journalists noted, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed something during the military parade held in Moscow on May 9. “This was extremely stressful for the West, which had invested quite substantial funds in Armenia to try to cut it off from the CSTO and EAEU, and essentially to create a precedent for the destruction of these two integration entities in the post-Soviet region. This would deprive the CSTO and EAEU of further expansion opportunities,” Avdonin explained.

According to the analyst, Belarusian President Lukashenko has always sought and continues to seek dialogue and good relations with Armenia, despite some disagreements and contradictions.

“This lays the foundation for strong Belarus-Armenia relations—both bilaterally and within the frameworks of the EAEU and CSTO. No Western power will be able to detach Armenia from our major regional integration projects,” Avdonin noted.
