Assassination attempted on Iran’s foreign minister
An assassination attempt on Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has been thwarted, Mohammad Hossein Ranjbaran, Adviser to Minister Araghci said in an X post.
Ranjbaran stated that the incident occurred a few days ago in Tehran. “Had it not been for the security measures taken by the unknown soldiers of the homeland, a major Israeli plot might have succeeded—but, thank God, it failed,” the diplomat wrote. No further details about the assassination attempt have been disclosed.
Following the escalation of conflict with Israel, Araghchi has had several direct phone calls with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Among other things, Araghchi emphasized that Tehran would not return to negotiations until Israel halts its attacks.
