This meeting provides an opportunity to discuss all urgent issues and reflect on ways to resolve the current situation: Putin to Araghchi

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the Kremlin.

Iran’s foreign minister arrived in Moscow on the evening of June 22. IRNA reported that Araghchi would hold talks with the president and other high-ranking Russian officials regarding developments in the Middle East and the world following strikes by the U.S. and Israel on Iran.

According to RIA Novosti, Araghchi stated during his meeting with Putin that tensions in the Middle East are increasing due to attacks by Israel and the U.S. on the Islamic Republic.

Iran’s foreign minister also noted that he was happy to meet with Putin amid the crisis in the Middle East. He added that Tehran appreciates Moscow’s condemnation of actions taken by Israel and the U.S. against Iran. Araghchi noted that Tehran considers the actions against Iran by the U.S. and Israel illegal, and that the Islamic Republic’s defense is legitimate.

“I hope we will be able to discuss the full range of issues related to this event today,” Araghchi said during the meeting.

In turn, the Russian president extended his best wishes to Iran’s leadership.

“I am glad that you are in Moscow today. This gives us an opportunity to discuss all these urgent issues and think together about how to resolve today’s situation,” Putin stated, adding that the unprovoked aggression against Iran has no basis or justification.

The Russian president stated that Russia’s position on the escalation of the situation around Iran and Israel is known and reflected in the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
