‘Even if I’m taken into custody, I still thank God, for I am going through a trial,’  Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan says in court

‘Even if I’m taken into custody, I still thank God, for I am going through a trial,’  Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan says in court

Archbishop Mikayel Ajapahyan’s lawyers spoke with reporters about his state of health.

During the court hearing, Ajapahyan stated, “Even if I’m taken into custody, I still thank God, for I am going through a trial.”

The defense argues that the motion for Ajapahyan’s detention is discriminatory. Moreover, they emphasized that the Archbishop voluntarily appeared before the Investigative Committee, indicating that he is not evading justice.

As for his previous remarks in interviews (in 2024 and again in 2025) regarding a “military coup,” the defense clarified that these were not calls to action, but rather an assessment of the situation that emerged in the wake of the 44-day war.

“He is not making a call, he is describing something,” the lawyer stated.
