Armenia unlikely to benefit from moving away its allies, says Lavrov
It is unlikely that the Armenian people would benefit if the country’s leadership chooses to turn away from its Eurasian neighbors and allies, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said following a meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers.
“We are not putting any pressure on Armenia’s ruling circles. We will wait for clarification on all these matters. But we all understand that if Armenia moves away from its allies, from its closest partners and neighbors, it is unlikely to bring any benefit to the Armenian people,” Lavrov said.
He made the statement in response to recent comments from official Yerevan suggesting that Armenia may have to choose between the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union, as well as determine its future in the CSTO.
