Yerevan often turns to West at expense of its national interests, says Russia’s Foreign Ministry
Dmitry Masyuk, Deputy Director of the Fourth Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s CIS Department, stated that Armenia often adopts a Western-oriented course, to the detriment of its national interests. In this regard, Masyuk recalled the possibility of Armenia’s withdrawal from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
“We feel the destructive influence of Westerners in Armenia. To our deep regret, this South Caucasian republic does not firmly resist these changes and continues to orient itself toward the West, often to the detriment of its national interests. A concrete example is Yerevan’s withdrawal from cooperation with the CSTO,” Masyuk noted.
The diplomat noted that the potential of this organization is significant for ensuring stability in the region.
