
US asks Israel to cease Syria bombings, Axios reports
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump requested Israel to stop airstrikes on Syria on July 16, Barak Ravid, a journalist with Axios, said, citing U.S. officials.
“On July 16, the Trump administration again urged Israel to cease airstrikes on Syria and to begin dialogue with the Damascus authorities to reduce tensions,” Ravid wrote on X.
On July 16, Israel conducted several airstrikes on Damascus. The strikes targeted the Syrian Army’s General Staff and the presidential palace.
The Israeli military confirmed the bombing of the Syrian capital and linked it to the escalation of the situation in the country’s south, where clashes have been taking place since July 13 involving local Druze supported by Israel.
