State Department comments on Turkish ambassador’s statement about managing ‘Zangezur Corridor’ for 100 years
U.S. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce commented on the statement by U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack that an American company could manage the “Zangezur Corridor” for 100 years.
An Azerbaijani journalist asked Bruce about the U.S. position on the “Zangezur Corridor”, noting that Russia and Iran have also expressed concern about it, as they want to keep it under their control. In response, she said: “I think we have a general sense here, and it’s obviously sometimes one of the problems with being in a location geopolitically that many places are interested in. We do know – and this is what I can say and it’s not exactly what you’re looking for, but – I – because this is also a question that the White House, that the President’s team – we’d like to check with them and see what they would say to this. But I can just tell you that the United States – we support, of course, efforts to promote peace and stability in the South Caucasus, as you know. And we track the events there. We are watching. We clearly – it’s something we are addressing. But I want to get something more for you than that, and we will indeed.”
