US planning to withdraw from UNESCO
The U.S. State Department has informed the leadership of UNESCO of its decision to withdraw from the international organization, the press service of the foreign ministry reports.
“Today, the United States informed Director-General Audrey Azoulay of the United States’ decision to withdraw from UNESCO. Continued involvement in UNESCO is not in the national interest of the United States,” the State Department writes.
As noted, the international organization is driven by a “globalist, ideological agenda” that contradicts the Trump administration’s “America First” policy.
“UNESCO’s decision to admit the ‘State of Palestine’ as a Member State is highly problematic, contrary to U.S. policy, and contributed to the proliferation of anti-Israel rhetoric within the organization,” reads the statement.
The document states that the United States will cease to be a full member of UNESCO on Dec. 31, 2026.
