Iran’s foreign minister on Armenia–Azerbaijan–US declaration

The issue of a “corridor” has been “set aside,” and the discussion now concerns a “transit road” that will pass through Armenia under that country’s sovereignty and jurisdiction, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated.

He emphasized, however, that as noted in the Foreign Ministry’s statement, any foreign presence in the region could negatively impact peace and stability, and the presence of an American company is a cause for concern.

Araghchi said this issue has been, and will continue to be, raised in discussions with both Azerbaijan and Armenia.

He added that Tehran’s position in the region is also clear: it supports the full sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and does not accept any changes to international borders.

Araghchi said he will hold a phone conversation with his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, and a discussion with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is also planned. Next week, Armenia’s deputy foreign minister is set to visit Iran.
