Baku expects constitutional amendments from Yerevan for peace agreement ratification, says Amirbekov

Baku expects the Armenian side to amend its constitution to remove the remaining territorial claims against Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani media reported, citing Elchin Amirbekov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan.

“The provision in the document concerning the initial signing of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia recognizes the need for further steps toward its signing and ratification. In other words, for this to become possible, Baku expects amendments to be made to Armenia’s Constitution to eliminate the territorial claims still in place against Azerbaijan,” Amirbekov stated.

He also drew attention to another clause of the declaration, which commits both countries to open transport and communication links, stressing in particular the need to ensure unimpeded connectivity between Azerbaijan and Nakhijevan.
