In regular contacts with Iran, great importance always attached to issues of stability and security in South Caucasus, says Russia’s Foreign Ministry
Moscow notes various nuances and emphases in statements by Iranian officials regarding the recent Aliyev–Pashinyan–Trump meeting in Washington, said Alexey Fadeev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department at Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
“Moscow has carefully studied and reviewed statements by representatives of the Iranian Foreign Ministry leadership concerning the results of the Aug. 8 meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the United States in Washington,” Fadeev said in response to a question about Iran’s reaction and its actions in the context of regional security, either with or without Russia’s involvement.
According to him, in regular contacts with Iranian partners, great importance is always attached to issues of stability and security in the South Caucasus. “They are aware of this as well, and close coordination between the two ministries continues,” Fadeev noted. “The best way to resolve South Caucasus issues is through the implementation of solutions developed by the region’s countries themselves, with the support of their immediate neighbors. The involvement of third-party actors should serve only to strengthen the peace agenda, not to create additional difficulties or dividing lines.”
