Trump calls meeting with Putin ‘productive’ despite lack of progress on Ukraine

The meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, held in Alaska, concluded without any breakthrough in the issue of Ukraine, CNBC reported.

Despite this, Trump described the talks as “productive,” while Putin called the meeting a “starting point” both for resolving the conflict with Kyiv and for improving relations with Washington.

This marked Putin’s first visit to the United States in a decade. He stressed that Russian-American relations are at their “lowest point since the Cold War.”

The meeting, which lasted about three hours, ended with statements but no detailed announcements or a press conference. Trump noted that the two sides had reached agreements “on many issues,” though several key topics remain unresolved. He pledged to brief NATO and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the outcomes.

Russian state media described the summit as a diplomatic success for Moscow, while in Kyiv it was met with concern over potential risks of territorial concessions.
