Meeting in Alaska begins with pomp and concludes in disappointment, European media on Putin-Trump meeting
European media, analyzing the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska, points to the lack of details of the agreements reached and believes that the meeting was more successful for the Russian side. The Economist writes that the meeting was a triumph for the Russian president.
The Guardian notes that Donald Trump left more questions than answers on Friday as he claimed “great progress” in his high-stakes summit with Vladimir Putin but admitted that no deal had been reached to end the war on Ukraine. The Financial Times also comes to a similar conclusion.
“After a meeting in Alaska that began with pomp and ended in disappointment, Trump failed to get any commitment from Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine,” the publication states.
To remind, on Aug. 15, Putin and Trump held a closed-door meeting in Alaska. They spoke for almost three hours in the presence of the heads of foreign policy agencies and their aides.
