European leaders set to travel to Washington for Trump–Zelenskyy meeting

Several European heads of state and government will travel to Washington on Monday to take part in the meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy, European media reports, citing official statements.

According to the German government, Chancellor Friedrich Merz will join other European leaders in Washington to discuss the Ukrainian crisis and support for Kyiv.

“Among other issues, security guarantees, territorial questions, and sustained support for Ukraine in defending itself against Russian aggression will be discussed. This includes maintaining pressure through sanctions,” the German government said in a statement.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has also confirmed his participation.

The Élysée Palace announced that French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Washington with Zelenskyy. Italy’s Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will be there as well.

The U.K. government reported that Prime Minister Keir Starmer also plans to join the Trump–Zelenskyy meeting.

In addition, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed her participation. “At President Zelenskyy’s request, tomorrow I will join President Trump and European leaders for a meeting at the White House,” she wrote on X.
