Armenia and Iran express mutual willingness to elevate relations to strategic level, says Pashinyan

In Yerevan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met and held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, after which statements were issued. This is Pezeshkian’s first visit to Armenia.

Nikol Pashinyan noted that Armenian-Iranian relations are based on historical friendship and emphasized the importance of raising them to the level of strategic partnership. He highlighted Iran’s clear support for Armenia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The sides discussed regional peace, unblocking economic infrastructure, and reopening communication routes. Pashinyan also outlined the details of the preliminary peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

According to Pashinyan, reopening communication routes—particularly the operation of the Nakhijevan-Julfa railway line—will open new opportunities for both Armenia and Iran, providing railway access toward the Black Sea. Pashinyan stated that all communication routes passing through Armenia will remain under Armenia’s exclusive jurisdiction.
