Whether people like it or not, Russia is a powerful country, and Zelenskyy must show flexibility, says Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump said there will be no American troops in Ukraine during his presidency, while stressing that Washington will provide Kyiv with certain security guarantees. He made the remarks in an interview with Fox News.
Trump underlined that the United States is ready to offer assistance, but added that France, Germany, and the United Kingdom are considering deploying their own troops to Ukraine. He also noted that he does not plan to participate in the first meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyը, saying that the decisions will be made by the two leaders, as the U.S. remains distant from the conflict.
“Zelenskyy must show flexibility. There may be an agreement, or there may not. We’ll see in the next 2–3 weeks,” Trump said.
According to him, during a recent White House meeting, European leaders acknowledged that Ukraine may need to make concessions on territorial issues. At the same time, the US leader added that Ukraine would receive a lot of land.
“Ukraine will get a life vest, and they will receive a lot of land. But this is war, and Russia is a strong country. Whether people like it or not, it is a powerful country. It is much larger,” Trump noted.
He also stated that returning Crimea to Ukraine or admitting Kyiv into NATO is “impossible.”
