North Korean leader calls for rapid expansion of nuclear arsenal

U.S. President Donald Trump famously declared he had “largely solved” the problem of North Korea’s nuclear weapons program. But Kim Jong-un seems determined to reignite the “fire and fury” of an international crisis, News.com writes.

North Korea once suspended its nuclear program, but in 2019, negotiations failed, and the country began developing more powerful weapons that could reach deep into the U.S.

Kim told officials this week that the security situation is getting worse and that it is necessary to quickly develop its nuclear arsenal.

He was commenting to the 11-day Ulchi Freedom Shield military exercise which is being held jointly by the United States and South Korea. 18,000 South Korean soldiers are involved, which Kim says is actually a preparation for a possible invasion.

At the same time, the North Korean army is gaining real combat experience by participating in Russia’s operations in Ukraine.
