South Caucasus countries should strengthen regional mechanisms to prevent external interference, says Iran’s Foreign Ministry
The 3+3 format in the South Caucasus is a successful model for resolving regional conflicts, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said at a press conference.
He noted that “the countries of the South Caucasus should strengthen regional mechanisms to prevent external interference, and Iran is actively working in this direction.”
“The 3+3 format is historic for the South Caucasus. It was established for consultations among the countries of the region, including Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as states encompassing the South Caucasus. To date, numerous meetings have been held in different countries, with one of the first taking place in Tehran. This mechanism has proven itself as a regional platform that contributes to resolving disputes between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Baghaei noted.
Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also said in a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin that the 3+3 format would become a more effective mechanism for addressing problems in the South Caucasus.
