France’s left-wing party to submit motion calling for Macron’s resignation
France’s left-wing party, La France Insoumise, announced plans to submit a motion to the French Parliament on Sept. 23 calling for President Emmanuel Macron to be removed from office, party leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon said.
“A year ago, we already raised the question of the president’s resignation. Now we will do it again on Sept. 23. In addition to a no-confidence vote—which will likely be meaningless as the government will already have collapsed by then—we will submit a proposal to remove Macron from power,” Mélenchon said on France Inter radio.
In 2024, La France Insoumise previously initiated an impeachment process against Macron, but it was unsuccessful. The parliamentary legislative committee of the lower house later rejected the motion to remove the president, with 15 in favor and 54 against.
