IAEA has repeatedly confirmed Metsamor nuclear plant safety, says Zakharova

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said during a press briefing that Russia observes Armenia’s interest in the peaceful use of nuclear energy within the framework of developing effective bilateral cooperation.

At the same time, she noted that efforts and statements by unfriendly states, primarily Western countries, claiming that Armenia’s operating nuclear power plant could be shut down or pose risks, are being recorded.

Zakharova recalled that the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant was built specifically for Armenia, taking into account the country’s seismic and climatic features. She noted that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed the plant’s safety.
