Trump on upcoming conversation with Putin

U.S. President Donald Trump said he plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future.

“Yes, I will do that. We had a very good dialogue,” Trump said during a press briefing at the White House on Sept. 5.

At the same time, according to Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, no preparations are currently underway to organize a phone call between the presidents of Russia and the United States, though he added that such a conversation could be “arranged quickly.”

Earlier, Trump held phone calls with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and representatives of the Coalition of Volunteers during Zelenskyy’s visit to Paris. They discussed security guarantees for Kyiv. According to Reuters, during the hour-long call the U.S. president urged European leaders to halt purchases of Russian oil and to increase economic pressure on China, which he accused of financially supporting Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy said the coalition representatives had reached agreement on a general framework for Ukraine’s security guarantees. He noted that Ukraine’s armed forces would play a key role in ensuring those guarantees. He also noted that during the Sept. 4 meeting in Paris, all participants agreed that “Moscow rejects any peace initiatives aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.”

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that 26 countries intend to join a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine after a ceasefire is reached. He noted that these states have “formally agreed either to send their troops to Ukraine or to provide certain resources to support the coalition, ensuring security at sea or in the air.”
