Public debt rises across all EAEU member states

Kyrgyzstan has recorded the fastest growth in public debt among the five member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Deutsche Welle reports.

According to data from the Eurasian Economic Commission, from July 2024 to July 2025 the country’s public debt increased by 33.2%. Domestic debt saw the sharpest rise, growing 1.7 times over the year.

Kyrgyzstan’s total public debt reached $8.4 billion, of which $5.2 billion is external debt (up from $4.5 billion), and $3.1 billion is domestic debt (up from $1.9 billion).

Other EAEU members also reported increases: Russia’s public debt rose by 17.2%, Kazakhstan’s by 16.8%, and Armenia’s by 12.5%. The report contained no data regarding Belarus.
