European Commission suspends support for Israel
The European Commission plans to scale back cooperation with Israel, impose sanctions on members of its government, and suspend the EU–Israel Association Agreement, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in Strasbourg during her annual State of the Union address to the European Parliament.
“We are suspending support for Israel, halting all payments that do not affect our cooperation with the country’s civil society, and preparing sanctions against several ministers,” von der Leyen said.
