55% of Israeli soldiers wounded in Gaza suffered psychological trauma, says Israel’s Defense Ministry
About 20,000 wounded soldiers from the current Gaza war are being treated by the Israeli Defense Ministry’s rehabilitation department, of which 10,700, or 55%, are dealing with psychological wounds, Haaretz writes, referring to Israel’s Defense Ministry.
Twenty percent of those with mental wounds were also physically hurt, whereas 45% are only physically wounded, per the Ministry; 64% of the patients are reserve soldiers, and 92% are men.
The rehabilitation department estimates that by 2028 it will treat 100,000 wounded, including 50,000 with psychological wounds.
A year ago, the department estimated it would reach that number by 2030, but due to the expansion of the Gaza campaign, its estimates have changed.
