Trump to cancel military aid to Taiwan

U.S. President Donald Trump plans to cancel $400 million in military aid to Taiwan, The Washington Post reports, citing its sources.

According to the report, the move is linked to Trump’s intention to secure a trade agreement with Chinese President Xi Jinping at a possible summit. Sources noted that the decision could still be reversed, but if implemented, it would mark a “turning point” in U.S. policy toward the island.

The new aid package for Taiwan reportedly included ammunition and drones.

Taiwan’s de facto embassy in Washington declined to comment on the matter.
