Erdogan’s microphone cut off during UN speech
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s microphone was cut off while he was delivering a speech on the Palestinian issue at the United Nations. Reports note that Erdogan was making strong remarks about Israel’s policies in the region when the incident occurred.
The Turkish daily Sabah suggested that it may have been the result of a cyberattack.
“During President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s historic speech, the microphone was turned off. There are assumptions that his speech was deliberately interrupted, or that a cyberattack took place,” the newspaper wrote.
The microphone was indeed cut during the live broadcast of Erdogan’s address on state broadcaster TRT Haber and on Anadolu Agency’s social media pages.
“We apologize, ladies and gentlemen. This is the translator speaking. I cannot hear the president,” was heard in English during the broadcast. “We are experiencing a technical issue.”
Turkish authorities have not yet commented on the issue.
